The State Revenue Service of Latvia (VID) has announced significant changes regarding the Electronic Declaration System (EDS). From January 1, 2026, users will only be able to log in with secure authentication methods, meaning that the current option of using a username and password will be completely discontinued.

From January 2026, password login will no longer be available. Instead, users will have to choose one of the following three secure options:
VID explains that the goal is to strengthen cybersecurity and protect taxpayers’ data. Passwords can be weak, reused, stolen, or hacked. In contrast, eParaksts and eID cards use advanced encryption, ensuring reliable identity verification.
